Early Language Support for Every Child (ELSEC)

At Wrockwardine Wood Infant School and Nursery, we want every child to become a confident communicator. Listening, understanding and talking help children build friendships, express their feelings and ideas, and develop the foundations for learning.
We are pleased to be taking part in ELSEC—Early Language Support for Every Child, a project helping us further strengthen communication and language support across our nursery and school.

How are we supporting children?
We have assessed the communication and language skills of children across our nursery and school. This helps us understand their strengths and identify where additional support may be beneficial.
Our approach includes:
-
Everyday support for all children through conversations, stories, songs, play and carefully planned learning experiences.
-
Targeted interventions for some children, providing opportunities to practise specific communication and language skills.
-
Activities for families to enjoy at home, helping children build on their learning through playful, everyday interactions.
If your child is selected for a targeted intervention, we will contact you directly to explain the support they will receive and how you can help at home.
Learning together at home
Families play an important part in children’s communication and language development. You do not need special equipment or lengthy activities—chatting while getting dressed, listening on a walk or sharing a favourite book all provide valuable opportunities to learn.
Through our newsletter and website, we will share weekly activities and suggested stories for you to enjoy together.
Learning at Home (ELSEC)These are for all families, whether or not your child attends an intervention.
When trying the activities:
-
Follow your child’s interests and let them take the lead.
-
Give them time to think and respond.
-
Enjoy favourite stories, songs and games again and again.
-
Use the language you feel most comfortable speaking at home.
-
Keep it relaxed, playful and fun!
