Reception

Each term, our learning is carefully planned around an engaging theme that supports children’s curiosity, imagination and development across all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Spring Term Theme Overview
This spring, our Reception children will be exploring the theme “Let’s Pretend!” Through role play, stories, creative activities and hands-on experiences, children will develop their communication and language, early reading, writing and maths skills, while also building confidence, independence and social understanding.
Below you will find an overview of what your child will be learning this term, along with ideas for how you can support their learning at home. Our learning is always play-based, purposeful and responsive to the children’s interests, helping every child to achieve, belong and thrive.
Autumn Term Theme Overview
In the autumn term, our Reception children begin their exciting journey into school life through the theme “Let’s Celebrate Starting School and Me!” This important term focuses on helping children feel safe, confident and happy as they settle into new routines, friendships and learning experiences.
The autumn term is also full of exciting celebrations and seasonal learning. Children will explore events such as Diwali, Bonfire Night and Christmas, alongside learning about the changing season of autumn. These experiences help children develop an understanding of the world around them, learn about different traditions and cultures, and enjoy shared celebrations together.
Through stories, play, exploration and creative activities, children will continue to develop early reading, writing and maths skills, while also learning how to share, take turns, follow expectations and build positive relationships.
Below you will find an overview of what your child will be learning this term, along with ideas to support learning at home. Our curriculum is designed to be nurturing, engaging and developmentally appropriate, supporting every child to achieve, belong and thrive as they take their first steps in school.
