Attendance

Attendance Matters

At Wrockwardine Wood, we understand that sometimes there are genuine reasons why your child may be absent from school. However, when absence is not unavoidable, it can have a significant impact on your child’s education.

Did you know?

  • 96% attendance is the minimum expected for children to achieve their potential.

  • Children with attendance below 90% are classed as persistent absentees and could miss up to 4 weeks of school per year.

  • Poor attendance is strongly linked to lower achievement and poor behaviour.

Why Good Attendance Matters

  • Our curriculum is carefully sequenced, meaning learning builds over time. Missing days can lead to gaps in knowledge.

  • Children who are often absent can struggle to maintain friendships and social confidence.

  • Being in school every day helps children to make the most of their learning and develop essential life skills.

How We Support and Monitor Attendance

Our goal is to make sure every child receives a full-time education and reaches their true potential.
We work closely with families to support regular attendance and will take swift action if there are concerns.

You can read more in our Attendance Policy or speak with our Admin Team or Pastoral Support.

What You Can Do to Support Your Child’s Attendance

  • Establish consistent morning and bedtime routines.

  • Bring your child every day unless they are genuinely unwell.

  • Make sure your child arrives on time – being late can feel embarrassing and disrupt learning.

  • Arrange medical and dental appointments outside school hours whenever possible.

  • Always call the school on 01952 387860 to report an absence.

  • Take family holidays during school holidays – there are 175 other days in the year for holidays.

  • Read our weekly newsletter to keep up to date with what’s happening in school.

  • Attend parent/teacher consultations to stay informed about your child’s progress.

  • Praise and encourage your child’s achievements at school.
